Arrow The Man Under the Hood Review - You only tell us about a cure now??

Spoilers for the episode follow

It's been a few weeks now since we last had a episode of Arrow so the catch up for what has happen this season was desperately needed as my mind was wiped as far as the events this season. I think that's mostly because this season has been very up and down like a roller coaster it's only been in these last few episodes that things have started to get better. With Slade getting his plans in full swing now and Oliver no longer the CEO of the company things aren't going well for him and the team at the moment. With Sarah just being a useless addition to the team that doesn't add anything other then extra muscle because she certainly doesn't add anything to the team in the present day. We still have this on going stroyline where we are waiting on bated breath of the outcome of that guy the flash who as far as we know is in a coma but has still managed to find a woman. Then poor Phia is just becoming the outsider of the family like what Oliver did at the start of the season with his mother it's almost like they are now doing the same with Phia joists swapping things round. This season is a up and downer when things start going right it just takes a dip bit like Agents of Shield really.

So let's start with the big stroyline this season being Slade and his plan to use his blood to create his own army of super soilders from the group of prisoners that he busted from that prison van. Now I know that Slade is now the villain but I still can't help but like him because you spent the whole of the first season routing for him and Oliver on the island. So now to suddenly change that up and have him as the villain it's hard to start hating him straight away seeing as he has got a good reason to hate Oliver he did say Sarah over Shadow after all. But can I ask where do they go when this storyline finished because it's obvious that this season is going to another big finale with the death of Slade. So where do they go with the show from there I most mean as far as the island story goes as I have found that getting weaker every weak. They can't really expect them to have another villain stumble across the island and for Oliver to fight them so we have to spend another season flashing back to the island. But are get onto the island stuff next because I think that the island story really has run it's course as a weekly thing I mean. Back to the whole Slade thing those this week we saw Slade/Deathstroke attack the group at the base well I say attack he more just stood there and like a one man army took all of them out. I don't know about you but I love the suit that they have gone with for deathstroke he looks like Nolans Bane if he was missing a eye. I don't know if that is the plan because Nolan as pretty much set up the whole DC universe for the screen it makes sense to try and follow his route of doing things. All Slade needed pin that scene was to sound like Gandlaf and it was have been Bane just wearing a diffrent mask. The person that I did feel sorry for in that scene those was Felicity who they really need to start training because at the moment she's just a vunrebility hiding underneath the stairs watching as her friends get beaten the crap out of. So Slade attacks the group at the base not to kill them which he could have dime then and there and saved him the trouble of them tuning his plans later on down the road. But so that he could take the skeleton key which will allow him to override any lock and get into any system that he wants which someone will have to remind me how the group had that tech because I never remember them having it. This scene was probably one of my faviroute parts of the epsiode because it just showed Slade as a human tank and showed why you shouldn't mess with a man high on miracurue. It also finally set the wheels in motion for the final few big episodes as they get to the finale with Slades plans finally getting off the ground it only took him most of the season.

So can we talk about the island stuff this week and just in general as this is the first post that I have done on the blog about Arrow well an episode anyway. Which I apologise for what with the whole messed up schedule for the show so keeping up with when the latest epsiode is on has always been a task but I think that they are back on a weekly schedule fingers crossed. But yeah the island while there wasn't that much of it this week well not as much as there has been other weeks it just felt week and not really needed. Well not to say it didn't feel needed more that it was information that they should have told us sooner not dropped it on us now and expect us to find it a shock or a big reveal. The reveal being that their is a cure for the effect of the miracurue which Oliver and Sarah found out on the island off of the captain of the ship I can't remember his name with the long break keeping track of the plot is hard enough. But what I didn't get about this scene this week and I don't know if it was just me but it felt like its something that should have either been put in a earlier episode or just left out and they could have spoke about it in the present day. Seeing as Sarah and Oliver did basically set it all up for the flashback scene and said that there was a cure for the miracurue effects. Then they flashed back and showed us just the information that we had already been told by the pair. I just find that they have gotten into this system now that they have to have a flashback moment every week. But every week that they do go back it just feels weaker and weaker and less like its needed as they are already telling us all the information in the present day. It just feels like we are watching them speak and then a parrot in the background retelling what they have already said.

This whole epsiode this week did feel like they were going in the right direction as tensions started to rise between Oliver and his sister Phia who still can't forgive him for lying to her. Which I guess I would be the same if a shock fact like that was kept from me that I have a diffrent father and what's even worse is that she hand a crush on her half brother and tried to kiss him. I warm to Phia more every week and with her finally finding out the truth she seems to be the only innocent person in this whole show that has lost everything. She's definantly become more likeable and someone that you feel for over the last couple of weeks as she has tried to come to turns with her predicament. My only problem with this storyline being that it feels like they are just reusing a past storyline between Oliver and their mother. Where if you remember Oliver wouldn't speaks to thier mother or even associate himself as being her son and now that's all sorted to an extent there's still that tension between then they have decided to flip it and do it with Phia instead. Which while I don't really feel that it was needed and it was something that they may have been able to say for a later episode maybe even say it for the finale. Have it be a storyline that could have carried over into the following season where you can then see the full outcome of it. But I get the fact that this is a massive master plan of Slades to have everyone that Oliver is close to and cares about hate him so it makes him feel alone like he felt when he lost Shadow. It's not the most unique storyline but works for the show and I guess it's what makes me like Slade because he's a broken man that has just lost his mind since losing the woman he loved.

Where this epsiode really started to get interesting was into the last 15 minutes as we finally saw what Slade wanted the blood transfusion machine thing for. Basically so that he could transfer the miracurue to the prisoners and affectivley get out of that situation where they die from the process so that it works 100% of the time. This is where we saw the machine strapped into that guy you know the one Phias ex boyfriend the douchebag that wouldn't listen to Oliver he reminds me of a cranky teenager. We saw that instead of Slade being the one that transfers his blood he used the boy so that he wouldn't have to risk himself being weak when Oliver did turn up to stop him. He's a smart man is Slade and the line that stood out for me in the epsiode is "don't forget I'm the one that taught you to fight" it's the best line of the epsiode. Mostly because pit almost reminds me of Rha al gul and batman that master and apprentice where they later turn into enemy's. It just shows how stupid Oliver really is as he forgets that this man spent two years with him on a island so he knows him like the back if his hand. It is making for some great action in the show as we see Oliver because nothing more then a human punching bag for Slade as every move is predictable for him. The last 15 minutes were brilliant and they showed a darker direction for the show as Slade created another solider for him team in the from of the new CEO of Oliver's former company. With her also making Oliver into nothing more then a human punching bag this will make for some great action going into the last few episodes because he's certainly got his work cut out for him. I just hope that they keep to this system of the island stuff being to the bare minimum now because it takes you away and out of the action of the modern day storyline.

Overall this epsiode was a step in the right direction for a show that has had a lot of dips this season and with the odd schedule it's hard to keep up with the plot at times. I just hope that we like I said keep to this system of the island stuff being kept to the bare minimum and finally see how Slade lost his eye. All keep the Laurel stuff to a minimum because she felt like filler this week as she went through a thought of should I say that I know who you are or shouldn't I it was just annoying and boring. I got to the point where I just wanted her to just say what she thought that stop playing mind games. But with only a few epsioes of the season left to go they have a lot to get through in these last few epsiodes. I just want them to get to the point with these last few epsiodes now less filler more action and plot keep the story moving rather then just dwelling in one place. Bit only time will tell where these last few episodes lead to will we see any big deaths this season I hope so I'm betting on Sarah.
